The CubeX Prints with ABS and PLA plastics. There are 17 and 18 different colors available respectively. For print materials the CubeX uses a Smart Cartridge System that makes loading and unloading materials extremely easy. The smart cartridge system also keeps the materials untangled and shielded from moisture to preserve lifetime. One cartridge prints 575 cubic centimeters, which is equivalent to approximately 50-70 iPhone cases.

The CubeX can print at a vertical resolution of 125 microns (0,125mm). With additional extruder upgrades the CubeX and print with up to three different colors or materials at the same time. The Maximum Print Volume is dependent on the number of colors used.

ABS - Properties

ABS is considered to be the second easiest material to work with when using an extrusion based 3D Printer. ABS is an engineering polymeer commonly used to produce car bumpers due to its toughness and strength. The same plastic us used to make LEGO™ blocks. It is a tough material, but safe enough for even kids to handle.

ABS is generally recommended for printing smaller parts 100mm (x) by 100mm (y). Shrinkage and warping can occur on models and this is purely geometry dependent. Depending on the geometry, PLA can be an alternative option for larger print objects.

PLA (Polylactic Acid) - Properties

PLA plastic is excellent for fine details, large bold prints and soluble support structures. With multi-jet printers, it can be used as opposite material when printing with ABS and easly peeled off from the final print.

PLA is probably the easiest material to work with when using a filament-based 3D Printer. It is a biodegradable thermoplastic that has been derived from renewable resources such as starch and sugar canes. This makes PLA environmentally friendly and very safe to work with.

PLA also has a very sharp glass transition point so if you use a fan to cool it on printing, it will set to solid very quickly. This has the advantage of achieving a greater range of geometries than are possible with other plastics. It also reduces the thermal stress on the printed part - warping becomes less of an issue in larger parts when you print with PLA. It does not require any curing or post-production treatment. Should you wish to, PLA can be sanded and coated with automotive spray filler and it can also be painted over with acrylic paint. PLA prints parts that require break off support material.

The CubeX Duo can print at a vertical resolution of 125 microns (0,125mm) with up to two different colors or materials at the same time. The Maximum Print Volume is dependent on the number of colors or materials used.
